Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how tasteful.md ("tasteful", "the Service", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our web application. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

tasteful is a tool for creating, editing, and sharing markdown configuration files that power AI agents. This policy covers both your direct interactions with the Service and interactions made by AI agents on your behalf through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account and sign in using a supported authentication method (Google OAuth or email/password via a third-party authentication provider), we collect and store:

  • Your email address
  • Your authentication provider identifier
  • Your chosen username and display name
  • The date your account was created

1.2 Content You Create

We store the content you create within the Service, including:

  • Projects and their metadata (name, slug, visibility settings, creation and modification dates)
  • Files within projects (filenames and content)
  • MCP token metadata (token names, creation dates, and SHA-256 hashes of token values)

1.3 Content Created by AI Agents

When AI agents connect to your projects via MCP tokens, they may read and modify your project files. Content written by AI agents is stored in the same manner as content you create directly. We do not separately track or label which content was created by you versus an AI agent.

1.4 Automatically Collected Information

When you access the Service, our infrastructure provider may automatically collect limited technical information, including:

  • IP address (processed by our infrastructure provider for security and routing; not stored by tasteful)
  • Browser type and version (via HTTP headers)
  • The pages you visit and the time of your visit

We do not use analytics services, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting technologies. We do not build behavioral profiles of our users.

1.5 Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not collect:

  • We do not collect your real name, phone number, physical address, or payment information
  • We do not collect data from your authentication provider beyond your email address and authentication identifier
  • We do not read, analyze, or process the semantic content of your files for any purpose other than storing and serving them to you and your authorized agents
  • We do not collect information from third-party sources to supplement your profile

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

PurposeData Used
Authenticate you and maintain your sessionEmail, account identifier, authentication cookie
Associate projects and files with your accountAccount ID, project and file data
Display your public profile and projectsUsername, public project content
Validate MCP token access for AI agentsToken hash, project association
Cache public content for performancePublic project and profile data
Protect the Service from abuseIP address (via infrastructure provider), request patterns
Respond to your support requestsEmail, account information

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, user profiling, automated decision-making, or AI model training. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Contractual necessity: Processing your account information and content to provide the Service to you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR)
  • Legitimate interests: Protecting the Service from abuse, caching public content for performance, and maintaining system security (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR)
  • Consent: Where we ask for your explicit consent for a specific processing activity, which you may withdraw at any time (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)
  • Legal obligation: Where we are required to process data to comply with applicable law (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR)

4. How We Share Your Information

4.1 Public Content

Projects you mark as public are viewable by anyone with the link. Your username is displayed on public project pages and your public profile. Public content may be:

  • Viewed by any visitor to the Service
  • Accessed by AI agents with valid MCP tokens
  • Indexed by search engines
  • Cached by our infrastructure for performance (up to 12 hours)

4.2 Private Content

Private projects are accessible only to you and to AI agents you have explicitly authorized by creating MCP tokens for that project. We do not access, review, or share the content of private projects except as required by law or to maintain the Service.

4.3 AI Agent Access

When you create an MCP token and provide it to an AI agent, that agent can read and modify files in the associated project. The data exchanged between the AI agent and the Service is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not control what AI agents do with the content they access. You should review the privacy policies of any AI agent or platform you connect to the Service.

4.4 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We do not participate in data broker networks. We have not sold personal information in the preceding 12 months.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We use a small number of third-party services to operate tasteful. These providers process data only as necessary to perform their specific function:

  • Authentication provider: Processes your email address, authentication tokens, and account identifier to verify your identity
  • Database hosting provider: Stores all account, project, file, and token data on our behalf
  • Infrastructure and CDN provider: Serves the application, caches public content, and provides DDoS protection. May process IP addresses and request headers as part of normal operation

We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, or any other third-party services beyond those required to operate the Service. If this changes, we will update this policy before introducing any new provider.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

6.1 Cookies We Use

We use a minimal number of cookies, all of which are essential for the Service to function:

CookiePurposeDuration
firebase_tokenMaintains your authenticated sessionSession (expires on browser close or token expiry)
csrf_tokenProtects form submissions from cross-site request forgerySession

6.2 No Tracking Cookies

We do not use non-essential cookies, tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies. We do not use pixel tags, web beacons, or similar tracking technologies. Because we do not use tracking cookies, there is no need for a cookie consent banner.

6.3 Do Not Track

We honor Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, because we do not track users across websites or use behavioral advertising, there is no tracking behavior for DNT to disable.

7. MCP Tokens and AI Agent Privacy

7.1 Token Security

When you create an MCP token to connect an AI agent, the raw token value is displayed exactly once at the time of creation. We store only a SHA-256 cryptographic hash of the token. We cannot recover, display, or reverse the raw token value after creation. If you lose a token, you must create a new one.

7.2 What AI Agents Can Access

An MCP token grants the connected AI agent access to:

  • List files in the associated project
  • Read the content of files in the associated project
  • Modify the content of files in the associated project
  • Access interview questions associated with specific file types

Tokens are scoped to a single project. An agent with a token for one project cannot access other projects in your account.

7.3 Logging and Monitoring

We do not log raw MCP token values, the content of MCP requests or responses, or the identity of AI agents connecting to the Service. We may log metadata for operational purposes (such as request timestamps and error codes) but not the substance of the data exchanged.

8. Data Storage and Security

8.1 Where Your Data Is Stored

Your data is stored in a managed database hosted by a third-party provider. The Service runs on a globally distributed network. Your data may be processed in data centers located outside your country of residence. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your data to these locations.

8.2 Security Measures

We protect your data through the following measures:

  • All connections to the Service are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
  • Authentication tokens are verified server-side on every request
  • MCP tokens are stored as irreversible SHA-256 hashes
  • Database access is restricted through connection pooling and network-level controls
  • Row-level security (RLS) policies enforce data isolation between users at the database level
  • Form submissions are protected against cross-site request forgery (CSRF)
  • Content Security Policy (CSP) headers protect against cross-site scripting (XSS)

8.3 Security Limitations

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and MCP tokens.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

9.1 Retention Periods

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service:

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Project and file data: Retained until you delete the project, file, or your account
  • MCP token hashes: Retained until you revoke the token or delete the associated project
  • Cached public content: Cached for up to 12 hours, then automatically expires

9.2 Deletion

You can delete individual files, projects, and MCP tokens at any time through the Service. You can delete your entire account, which removes all associated data from our active database. After deletion:

  • Data is removed from the active database promptly
  • Cached copies expire within 12 hours
  • Database backups may retain residual copies for up to 30 days, after which they are automatically purged
  • We do not actively use or make available data from backups except for disaster recovery

9.3 Data Portability

You can export your content at any time using the Service's download features or by retrieving files through MCP. Your content is stored as plain markdown text and can be used with any compatible tool or platform.

10. Your Rights

10.1 All Users

Regardless of your location, you have the right to:

  • Access: View all data associated with your account through the Service
  • Correction: Update your username, email, and content at any time
  • Deletion: Delete your content or your entire account
  • Portability: Export your content in standard markdown format
  • Object: Contact us to object to specific processing activities

10.2 EEA and UK Residents

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including:

  • Right to restrict processing: You can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
  • Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g., the ICO in the UK, or the relevant DPA in your EEA member state)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@tasteful.md. We will respond to requests within 30 days.

  • Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of
  • Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@tasteful.md. We will respond within 45 days as required by law.

11. International Data Transfers

The Service is operated from globally distributed infrastructure. Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, including the service providers' adherence to standard contractual clauses, data processing agreements, or equivalent mechanisms recognized by applicable data protection authorities.

12. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the applicable age, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@tasteful.md.

13. Business Transfers

If tasteful is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy, and you will have the opportunity to delete your account and data before any such transfer.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Service, or applicable law. If we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Provide notice through the Service where appropriate

Your continued use of the Service after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

15. Contact Us

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, contact us at hello@tasteful.md.

For data protection inquiries from EEA/UK residents, you may also contact your local data protection authority.
